Most of our events are X Spaces. A Space is a live audio chat on X (the app that used to be called Twitter). It works like a radio show you can join in: a few people talk, everyone else listens, and anyone can ask to speak.
Nobody sees you. You can listen while you cook or travel, and you only speak if you want to.
Before you start
You need an X account, and you need to be logged in. It is free.
Create an X accountThe X app on your phone works best, and you need it to speak. On a computer, you can listen at x.com in your browser.
Follow us on X: @codetopiacomm. When we go live, X shows our Space at the top of your feed.
Step 1: Find the next Space
Every Space is on the events page, marked Online, with its date and time in your own time zone. We also post it in channel announcements on Discord and on X when it starts.
To never miss one, add our events to your calendar.
Step 2: Join and listen
- At the time of the Space, open it on the events page and click JOIN SESSION. Or tap our Space at the top of your feed in the X app.
- The Space opens. Start listening.
- You will see who is speaking at the top, and everyone listening below.
You are done when
You can hear the speakers in our Space.
Step 3: Ask to speak (optional)
Have a question, or something to add? You can ask to join in.
- Tap the Request icon: a microphone with a small hand, at the bottom of the screen.
- Wait. The host sees your request and lets you in when there is a good moment.
- When you are let in, tap the microphone to unmute, then talk.
- When you are done, tap the microphone again to mute.
TIP
Say your name first, keep it short, and mute when you finish. Not ready to speak? Listening is completely fine.
The code of conduct applies in our Spaces too.
If something goes wrong
I can't hear anything. Turn up your phone's volume, and check it is not on silent. Then leave the Space and join again.
There is no Request icon. Make sure you are logged in to X, and use the X app on your phone.
The Space has ended. Spaces only happen live. Check the events page for the next one.
Anything else? Ask in channel ask-for-help on Discord.
Want to speak at a meetup or conference?
For our meetups and conferences, we find speakers through Speakwise, one of our partners. It is a free website where speakers show their talks, and where event organisers look for speakers.
If you would like to speak at meetups and conferences, ours or others, create a free speaker profile there and add your topics and any talks you have given.
